FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Los Angeles, CA, November 4, 2013 – AFI FEST presented by Audi today announced their cultural partners and sponsors for this year's film festival which takes place November 7 through 14 at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre, the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres, the Egyptian Theatre and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The American Film Institute honors excellence in film artistry annually through AFI FEST, which brings icons, emerging artists and audiences together to experience global cinema in the movie capitol of the world.

This is also the 10th year of AFI FEST’s alliance with the American Film Market (AFM). This strategic festival market alliance is the only one of its kind in North America. Filmmakers and industry executives benefit from the concurrence of the two events and the dialogue, and strategic partnerships of art and commerce that it fosters. This year 40 films that are being showcased at AFI FEST will also be represented at AFM and 12 films will screen at both events. Several international sales agents such as Bac Films, Beta Cinema, Celluloid Dreams, Elle Driver, Films Distribution, Finecut, Fortissimo Films, IM Global, Match Factory, Memento, MK2, Pathe, StudioCanal and Wild Bunch will have films screening at both events.

This year’s Guest Artistic Director Agnès Varda, will be attending FEST in collaboration with the Consul General of France - Film & TV Office and TV5Monde will be co-hosting a conversation with Varda at the screening of CLEO FROM 5 TO 7(CLÉO DE 5 À 7) at the Egyptian Theatre on Saturday, November 9.
Celebrating the “Year of Italian Culture in the United States,” AFI FEST, Luce Cinecittà and the Italian Trade Commission will present the Centerpiece Gala on Sunday, November 10 of Bernardo Bertolucci’s THE LAST EMPEROR (3D) that will be attended by Bertolucci, as well as the screening of Paulo Sorrentino’s THE GREAT BEAUTY, Italy’s official Foreign Language Film Oscar® submission, which will culminate in the celebration of Cinema Italian Style at the Egyptian Theatre on Thursday, November 14 that both Bertolucci and Sorrentino will attend. Additionally, in partnership with Luce Cinecittà the photo exhibit “Hollywood – Roma, a unique look to Rome through the eyes of Hollywood stars,” will be on display in the lobby of the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres for the duration of the festival. The exhibit showcases photos from the archives of the legendary Cinecittà Studios in Rome, the birthplace of thousands of international and Italian feature films, including many Academy Award winners.
For the 10th year, Audi returns as the festival’s presenting sponsor. The complete AFI FEST 2013 program includes 119 films (83 features, 36 shorts), representing 43 countries. There are 27 films directed/co-directed by women and 10 documentaries. The breakdown by section is: Galas/Tributes (8), Special Screenings (7), American Independents (6), New Auteurs (10), World Cinema (32), Midnight (5), Breakthrough (4), Guest Artistic Director (6), Presentations (2), Cinema’s Legacy (3) and Short Films (36), and includes 15 official Foreign Language Film Oscar® submissions.
For the fifth consecutive year, AFI FEST will offer free tickets to all screenings, but only the Cinepass Express will provide priority entry to all regular screenings, as well as access to the cinema lounge. These and other AFI FEST Passes are on sale now at AFI.com/AFIFEST.
Tickets are available to the general public now through Closing Night, Thursday, November 14 - additional tickets are being released daily.
